“I am profoundly shocked and appalled by the recent events at President Trump’s rally. I extend my heartfelt wishes to him and his family. Political violence has no place in our society, and my thoughts are with all those affected by this attack.”

The attack, which took place on Saturday, 13 July 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania, sent shockwaves not only across the United States but around the globe. Thousands had gathered on a clear summer afternoon to hear Mr Trump speak when the sound of gunfire erupted across the rally grounds.

Ferro’s message comes at a time when the world must reaffirm the principles of peaceful political discourse. As chair of XIM (the Alliance for the Future Party), we stand firmly against extremism in all its forms.
In a world already grappling with deep political divisions, such violence is a stark reminder of the urgent need for unity, security, and responsible leadership. Mr Ferro spoke after the attack:
“In Somalia political violence, terrorism, and corruption have scarred generations, I know too well the devastating toll this path takes. For more than three decades, our people have lived through war and instability. Yet we also know that there is far more that unites us than divides us.” .

“The fight against extremism is not just an American concern – it is a global one. In Somalia, we have seen how corruption fuels terror. Tens of millions in aid and tax money fall into the hands of Al Shabaab, perpetuating a cycle of fear that benefits only the powerful and the violent. That is the ultimate betrayal of the Somali people.”

“We must create a society where our youth are inspired by hope, not recruited by hate. Somalia must become a country where unity triumphs over chaos. And globally, we must all commit to protecting democracy from the threats that seek to silence it.”
