President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has appointed Fahad Yasin, who was recently dismissed as NISA Chief by the Prime Minister, as his new security advisor. In a statement, Farmajo accepted Yasin’s resignation from NISA and appointed him as the new National Intelligence Agency (NISA) Chief, replacing Abdullahi, the Banadir regional security chief.

This move comes amidst ongoing tensions between the President and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Rooble. The Prime Minister has accused Farmajo of disrupting the investigation into the murder of Somali intelligence agent Ikran Tahliil. Rooble has instructed the new NISA chief to immediately assume his duties and urged the judiciary to expedite the investigation into Tahliil’s killing.

This development further deepens the rift between the Somali President and Prime Minister, with both leaders issuing competing directives and appointments. The ongoing political tension reflects the instability within Somalia’s national executive.
