Abshir Aden Ferro, leader of the Alliance for the Future Party (XIM), has called for national unity talks at the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu, aiming to forge a unified front to address Somalia’s pressing challenges.

During his address at the National Consultative Council, Abshir stressed the importance of unity among Somalia’s federal and state leaders. He urged them to prioritise national interests over personal, clan, or group concerns, emphasising that such unity is essential for overcoming the country’s many struggles.

“When your unity is rooted in serving the nation you have pledged to protect, prioritising the collective good over individual or clan interests, you will guide the Somali community toward a brighter future,” Abshir stated.

He warned that without genuine unity and patriotism, Somalia’s ongoing challenges could worsen, driving the country deeper into crisis. Abshir’s call for a united front is a direct plea for leaders to put aside divisions and focus on serving the Somali people above all else.

Leadership Accountability and Commitment

Abshir also highlighted the critical need for leaders to foster mutual trust and demonstrate genuine commitment to the country’s interests. Somalia, he pointed out, has long been ravaged by conflict, poverty, hunger, ignorance, and poor governance, all of which have impeded progress.

“The country has suffered for too long. It’s time for us to inspire hope and present a vision that moves beyond the current struggles. This can only be achieved through sincerity, genuine intentions, and a commitment to serving the Somali people,” Abshir said.

The Alliance for the Future Party leader also called on Somali citizens to take ownership of their nation’s future. He urged the public to engage in efforts to build national unity, foster patriotism, and hold leaders accountable for their actions.

“Those in leadership positions must be held accountable for their responsibilities, ensuring they serve the Somali people rather than their personal agendas,” Abshir added.

Addressing Somalia’s Urgent Challenges

The National Consultative Council, chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, discussed crucial matters of governance, including future electoral processes. However, Abshir reminded the leaders that Somalia’s core challenges – security, job opportunities, tensions with Somaliland, and ongoing conflicts with groups like al-Shabaab – remain urgent concerns that demand immediate action.

Despite these significant challenges, Abshir expressed optimism that with the right leadership and a united front, Somalia can overcome its current obstacles and build a future that serves the interests of all its people.
