On the 25th of May, 2023, The Alliance for the Future Party (XIM) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the people and leadership of Puntland State of Somalia for successfully conducting democratic district elections. This achievement, carried out using Puntland’s own resources, is a testament to the people’s commitment to democracy and political progress.

Puntland’s success in holding democratic elections is a clear message to the nation: Somalia can move towards universal suffrage and establish a democratic system if its leadership genuinely commits to political reforms. These elections stand as a shining example of what can be achieved when local leadership prioritises the will of the people.

XIM calls upon the Somali Government to take lessons from Puntland’s success and begin preparations for transparent, inclusive, and accountable democratic elections for the 2026-2030 electoral cycle. This is an opportunity to push forward reforms and ensure that future elections represent the true voice of all Somali citizens.
