XIM calls for urgent independent inquiry into MP Amina’s assassination after PM Roble implicates senior officials; justice must not be delayed.

Dear Somalis, those in the International Community, Donors, and NGOs,

At a prayer and remembrance meeting, Prime Minister Roble spoke candidly about the brutal assassination of the late MP Amina Mohamed, which took place on Wednesday, 23rd March 2022, in Beledweyne, Somalia. Prime Minister Roble confirmed that he has evidence implicating very senior government officials linked to the President’s office in the callous murder of MP Amina Mohamed.

We stand with the Somali people in demanding justice and call upon all those with a vested and legitimate interest in Somalia’s future to immediately commence an independent inquiry into this matter. It is crucial that this investigation is carried out without fear or favour, and that the recent revelations by the Prime Minister are taken seriously by the international community.

The evidence that is available must be secured and preserved before it is lost, tampered with, or destroyed. Now is the time for action. To remain silent in the face of these revelations is to be complicit in the crime.

We urge all who care for the future of Somalia and its people to act swiftly and decisively in seeking justice for MP Amina Mohamed.
