The people of Somalia have had to witness the painful spectacle of a deeply flawed selection process for our Parliament. Instead of focusing on the best interests of the people, allies of the incumbent President have schemed, manipulated, and delayed the process for the appointment of the speakers of the house. As a result, the election of our new President has been unnecessarily delayed.
This dysfunction not only undermines the legitimacy of the process but also demeans the people these officials are meant to serve. Though many of the newly selected MPs are fresh faces, we can only hope that their intentions align with the will of the people and that they act with the integrity the Somali public deserves. Unfortunately, the selection process has been marred by corruption, which is an insult to the millions of drought-stricken citizens of Somalia and our international community.
The international reputation of Somalia is at stake. The actions of the few have caused lasting damage, harming the credibility of the country and its leadership. The burden of these actions falls heavily on the shoulders of the people, who continue to endure hardship while political self-interest takes precedence.
Amidst this chaos, one party has stood firm, holding true to its principles of anti-corruption and integrity – the Alliance for the Future Party (XIM). Abshir Aden Ferro, the party’s Presidential candidate and Chairman, remains committed to restoring justice and fairness to Somalia’s political system.
XIM’s membership has grown to nearly 1.2 million strong, representing all sectors of Somali society – from the youth to the middle class, the downtrodden, and our extended diaspora. These members are united by a common goal: to restore integrity to our government.
We proudly welcome 25 newly selected MPs who have aligned themselves with XIM, pledging to act in the best interests of Somalia’s people. Their numbers continue to grow daily, and we urge other like-minded members of the legislature to join our ranks. Only together can we push Somalia toward a brighter future.
We call upon all Somalis to become part of history and join this movement. The time to act is now. Together, we can secure a better tomorrow.
